Recording a meeting

Last updated: July 2026

folo records your system audio and your microphone together — both sides of the conversation. Nothing joins the meeting: folo picks up the other participants through a Core Audio tap, and it is not a screen recording.

Starting and stopping a recording

You start a recording with the “Start recording” button at the top of the sidebar (or from the menu-bar icon). While recording, it becomes “Stop recording”. Once you stop, folo creates the meeting and begins transcribing automatically.

Automatic call detection

When folo detects a call in progress — in Zoom, Teams, Meet, Webex, Slack or Discord, say — it offers to record (“… in progress. Start recording?”). Because folo listens to audio rather than app integrations, this works with any meeting app, and with in-person conversations that use no call software at all.

Meeting title from your calendar

If a calendar event is active while you record, folo adopts its title as the meeting title. The calendar is read locally through macOS (EventKit) — no calendar account required. Optionally, you can connect a Google Calendar under “Settings”.

Permissions

To record your voice, folo needs microphone access; to capture the other side, it needs audio-recording permission. macOS asks for both the first time. If you declined, enable access under System Settings → Privacy & Security; you can see the current status in folo under “Settings → Permissions”.

Note: Only record with the consent of everyone involved. folo is deliberately built for consent-first recording.

Background: GDPR-compliant meeting recording — consent, storage and retention.
