folo is a native macOS app that records your meetings, transcribes them on-device, and turns them into summaries, action items and searchable notes. folo lives in the menu bar: it notices when you’re in a call, records both sides, and closes the loop afterwards — without a bot joining the meeting and, by default, without your audio ever leaving your Mac.
Menu bar and main window
folo runs continuously in the menu bar. The menu-bar icon lets you start and stop recordings and open the main window. Inside the main window, the sidebar on the left holds your meetings; the detail area on the right shows the selected one.
While nothing is selected, the detail area shows “No meeting selected” with the hint “Start a recording or pick a meeting from the list.”
The three views
Above the meeting list you switch between three modes:
- “Meetings” — every recording, grouped into “This week” and “Earlier”.
- “Projects” — the same meetings, bundled by project.
- “Tasks” — every open action item from every meeting, grouped by person.
At the very top sits the cross-meeting search “Ask across your meetings…” — it lets you ask the AI about your entire meeting history (see the Ask AI chapter).
The typical flow
Every meeting in folo runs through the same steps:
- Record. folo detects the call, or you start the recording yourself.
- Transcribe. Once you stop, folo turns the recording into a speaker-separated transcript, locally.
- Summarize. The transcript becomes a structured summary with action items — in a template of your choice.
- Use it. Ask the AI, check off tasks, share a follow-up, or hand the meeting to Døgn.
If you’re new, follow the learning path from top to bottom. The reference is there for looking things up.
Requirements
folo needs macOS 15 or later on a Mac with Apple Silicon. On first launch it downloads the local transcription model once; you can record straight away, and transcription starts automatically as soon as the model is ready. For recording, macOS asks for microphone and audio-capture permission the first time.
